An all-Ireland charity that promotes the conservation of bats and their habitats
Join us for an overnight training course in the beautiful surroundings of Fancroft Mill, Roscrea, Tipperary. This workshop is designed to introduce you to the acoustic world of bats. It is aimed at anyone who would like to up-skill their bat identification using bat detectors. We will focus on the use of heterodyne (tuneable) detectors but will also introduce full spectrum detectors, sonogram analysis and bat surveying techniques.
The training course will consist of illustrated lectures from 12 noon on Saturday. Field work will follow from Saturday evening. We will be detecting, surveying and identifying bats in flight in the unique grounds of Fancroft Mill. Field work will take place at dusk and again at dawn. Field work will not include handling bats. We will conclude with a summary of our results at 11am on Sunday morning.
The course fee covers all materials for the course, tea/coffee (during lectures) and evening meal (Saturday night). The fee does not include accommodation. We recommend that you bring your own bat detector but we will have a number of models available on the day for you to try out.
